3 arrested over gun attack on real estate office in Dhaka‍‍`s Pallabi

Three individuals have been arrested in connection with a gun attack on the office of a real estate company in Dhaka‍‍`s Pallabi area, allegedly carried out over a demand for Tk 5 crore in extortion.

Police conducted overnight raids in different parts of Mirpur on Saturday and made the arrests. The suspects have been identified as Niloy Hossain Bappy, Mamun Molla, and Mohammad Raihan.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pallabi Police Station, Shafiul Islam, confirmed that a case has been filed in relation to the incident, and police have sought seven-day remand for each of the accused for interrogation.

The attack took place last Friday afternoon when a group of armed men stormed the office of AK Builders and opened fire, according to company officials.

Police said at least four shots were fired during the incident. Shariful Islam, an employee of the company, was injured and is currently receiving treatment at Kurmitola General Hospital.

Amimul Ehsan, son of AK Builders Chairman Md Kaiyum Ali Khan, told the press that three weeks ago, a man named Jamil demanded Tk 5 crore from his father.

When the demand was not met, their office was attacked twice by the same group, who also damaged CCTV cameras and other equipment.

On Friday, a group of 30 to 40 armed assailants launched another attack on the company’s office and fired shots, injuring an employee, Ehsan said.

Following earlier threats and extortion demands, Kaiyum Ali Khan had filed a general diary (GD) with Pallabi Police Station on Thursday.

According to the GD, the first attack occurred on June 27, followed by another on July 4. The attackers allegedly threatened the chairman with dire consequences if their demands were not met. Despite the GD, a third attack took place on Friday.

Police say investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest others involved in the incident.
